An area that hauliers are regularly getting pulled up on and fined by the DVSA is for inadequate load restraint. Curtainside bodywork in particular that isn't rated to EN12642-XL are not allowed to use load restraint that incorporates a ridge pole or tracks built into the vehicle roof. The load must be restrained to the body floor ideally via the V-Groove side rave from one side to the other.
As from October 2016 Kurt Hobbs Coachworks Ltd can now offer curtainside and GRP bodywork approved to the EN12642-XL European Standard concerning load restraint, up to a GVW of 18ton.
This approval allows the GRP and the curtains used in our bodies to now offer a degree of load containment, this incorporates a centre roof mounted ridge pole with straps attached to the V-Groove side rave.
The EN12642-XL standard only applies where this is a positive load. Additional load restraint systems are still required for part loaded vehicles.
